Bamboo Plants
Bamboo plants are found in many major areas of the world. There are only two locations they are not located on. These areas are located in Europe and Antarctica. Amazingly they can grow up to two feet in one day reaching heights over one hundred feet over their life span of roughly 5-7 years. At maximum growth they can grow one meter in an hour!
These characteristics make bamboo plants an excellent building material for a wide variety of applications. In their natural form they can be used as scaffolding, fences and to built huts. When processed they can be pressed and laminated to produce traditional cuts of wood such as 2x4s and plywood. Due to its fast growth rate it is one of the only renewable sources of hardwood.
Bamboo plants can also be used for food with bamboo shoots comprising one of the main sources of fiber for all of Asia. They are also eaten by panda, elephants and brewed into an alcoholic drink by African mountain gorillas. It is valued culturally and in myths because of its great importance to the people where it grows.
