Bamboo Clothing
One of the newest materials used in the textile industry is bamboo clothing. It is allergen free, highly absorbent and wicking, as well as being naturally anti-bacterial. Because it is such a fast growing plant bamboo is quickly becoming common in t-shirts, pants and towels. It feels and drapes around the body very similarly to cotton and grows 75% faster.
Bamboo clothing is just as soft as silk and cashmere but is completely animal cruelty free. The bamboo that is harvested and grown for human uses is not the same type of bamboo that giant pandas and other animals live off of so this clothing is great for vegans and other environmentally conscious people. It can be fashioned in the same way as any other material and have textures ranging from coarse to silky smooth.
Bamboo clothing is usually grown naturally and organically which is very unlike cotton which is grown with thousands of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Although the clothing may be slightly more expensive than a $5 t-shirt from Wal-Mart it is much better for the environment and the wearer. Many allergies have been traced back to the chemicals put into clothing.
